Annual Meeting October 28, 2010    2010 Annual Meeting Minutes

This year’s SMPA Annual Meeting was held on Thursday, October 28th. Attendance was limited because of a conflict with the World Series game. There were 23 neighbors in attendence, 3 of them were new to the neighborhood.

Questions and concerns included:
1) How can we get all households to pay dues? Isn't there a membership person (she was told yes) Alex pointed out that we don't strong-arm people into paying.
2) Two attendees expressed interest in emergency preparedness -- one in ham radio contact and the other in willingness to help if we needed anything.

Recology, our new garbage disposal company, made a presentation on the new recycling/collection system which will begin in our neighborhood on January 3, 2011. To see an excellent video presentation go to: www.recologysanmateocounty.com/videos.php

Senior Engineer for the City of San Mateo, Gary Heap addressed proposed changes to the E. Poplar / 101 interchange with details on a number of options under consideration. There was much discussion about the safety and convienence of the different changes in traffic flow. You can sign up to receive updates on this process at:  www.cityofsanmateo.org/poplar101

All SMPA board members who were up for it were unanimously re-elected.

US 101/Poplar Interchange

A question was posed at the annual meeting.  Should our Neighborhood Association take a position with the city on the freeway interchange design?  We discussed several options:
  • Let the individual residents of our neighborhood make appearances at various public hearings.
  • Have the board present a point of view for the commission, if we can come to a consensus position.
The direction suggested at the meeting was for the board to inform our residents of the situation, and solicit feedback on alternative actions we might take.
